SoilSenseBD in Action: Precision Irrigation for a Rajshahi Mango Farm

Mango cultivation in Rajshahi is water-intensive, and the farmer had always followed a fixed irrigation schedule based on tradition rather than data. SoilSenseBD's in-ground sensors were installed across four zones of the orchard, measuring soil moisture at 15cm and 30cm depths. Within the first week, the dashboard showed that two zones were consistently over-irrigated while one zone was actually moisture-deficient despite receiving the same schedule.

After adjusting irrigation based on sensor data, the farmer reduced water usage by 28% and saw improved fruit size and sugar content at harvest — outcomes his agricultural extension officer attributed directly to the more balanced soil moisture levels. He has since expanded the sensor network to his second orchard and is exploring NPK monitoring ahead of next season's fertiliser application.
